Bjӧrk – Mutual Core – OFFICIAL – Art + Music – MOCAtv

In “Mutual Core,” recorded by Björk for her seventh album Biophilia, the earth’s geology is a metaphor for human relationships. Eruptions and earthquakes, the building of continents, the formation of mountain ranges and oceanic trenches: all are powerful signs of the earth’s structure and mechanics. Represented musically by the violent interruption of block rocking beats, video director Andrew Thomas Huang here depicts the push and pull of tectonic plates with anthropomorphized rocks, lava and sand encircling Björk in dance, their psychedelic innards resembling the frayed strands of a Fritz Haeg rug.

Gilad Ratman

Installing multi-channel site-specific Gilad Ratman for the Pavilion of Art Biennial in Israel 55.

It tells of a group of people that enters a cave to come out, after a long journey underground in a hole drilled in the floor of the Pavilion of Israel. Here, once inside, you bring everyone to shape their torso / head in which is stuck a microphone.

While I realize the sculptural work relate to the work in various ways.

While the reality continually creates boundaries and barriers (Israel and lives and creates barriers) Gilad Ratman the shattered shattering the real boundaries of the Pavilion, the physical and functional ones, as well as those between the subject and the one who shaped the plasma.

Hydraulophone (water pipe organ flute)

Ontario Science Centre Hydraulophone (a self-cleaning highly expressive musical keyboard fountain)

The FUNtain (TM) is a self-cleaning acoustic keyboard instrument for use in public spaces.

The FUNtain is a fun-to-play fountain keyboard made entirely out of Type 316 Stainless Steel (the same material used to make surgical instruments) and it has no moving parts to wear out or harbour contamination.

Each key is a water jet, so the keyboard cleans itself, and also allows a much wider range of musical expression than possible with hard plastic or wooden keys.

The FUNtain is the centerpiece of Teluscape, an outdoor park/playground built on the site of the original fountain out in front of the Ontario Science Centre.

The main focal point of Teluscape is a circular pipe organ that consists of two organ consoles, each of which is a semi-circular hydraulophone (water-pipe-organ-flute and fountain), along with two visible ranks of organ pipes arranged in a larger circle around the hydraulophones.

The hydraulophones produce sound of their own, as well as drive the organ pipes through hydraulic action.

When you block one of the jets on the hydraulophone, it produces its own sound (as hydraulophones normally do) while it also sends water out through the mouth of the corresponding pipe in the North Pool. Water that comes out of the mouths of the organ pipes, as they take turns speaking, collects in the North Pool and cascades down the back side of the pool.

Karlax – “The Dancer”

Film directed by Alex Boulic (alexboulic.com)
Dancer Choreographer: Hervé Diasnas
Produced by DA FACT (dafact.com)

Karlax has been designed to offer artists a range gestural incomparably rich, varied, expressive, intuitive and fun. Karlax captures all the gestures and movements of the fingers, wrists, elbows, forearms, torso and full body are captured, measured and transmitted to the computer that runs the artistic intentions of the performer and composer.

Find Alex and Boulic Karlax on www.raoutland.com:

In April, the Paris Conservatoire purchased a Karlax for its class « composition and new technologies » led by Luis Naon (composer and professor), Yann Geslin (composer, researcher at the GRM and professor) and Tom Mays (composer, interpreter and professor).

The mixed and electronic works are an important component of the young composers’ production at the Paris Conservatoire. In the class « composition and new technologies », under these activities unfold, the aesthetic diversity and freedom of expression are the result of the extremely rich variety of music composed by student composers throughout their schooling.

For over 10 years, the production of students in that field has led them to explore new horizons for the creation, while appropriating the tools that democratization of music informatics made accessible and diverse. The CNSMDP offers, in this regards, recording and sound designing studios, at the cutting edge of technology and benefiting from the research in collaboration with the main Parisian creation centers.

As part of their training, the composers perform a pathway connected to the history of electroacoustic genre in general, dating back to the origins of concrete and electronic music in the immediate postwar period.

Inaugurated in the late 60s, the class was oriented, in contact with the other disciplines of the Paris Conservatoire, towards a particular trend, strongly immersed in the idea of writing a sound.
Thus, the processes and parameters are part of a deep work to detail of the compositional field at large meaning.
This is surely due to this singularity, connecting electronic and mixity to sound and control, that it stands out in the European overview of the young creation.

Scape makes music that thinks for itself. From Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers, creators of Bloom, Scape is a new form of album which offers users deep access to its musical elements. These can be endlessly recombined to behave intelligently: reacting to each other, changing mood together, making new sonic spaces.

Can machines create original music? Scape is our answer to that question: it employs some of the sounds, processes and compositional rules that we have been using for many years and applies them in fresh combinations, to create new music. Scape makes music that thinks for itself.
