Raime announce new LP, share new single, play some shows, all with their characteristically effortless sense of existential dread

ALTERNATIVE

Dang, guys. It’s been a MINUTE now since the London-based, gloomy, drone-y, dirge-y, quasi-industrial, brood-music master-duo Raime unleashed their howling Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, and I’m ashamed to admit that, during the interim, I’d almost forgotten how scary and dreadful life on planet earth is on a daily basis.

THANKFULLY, though, here they come again to remind me! The band’s spooky second album, titled Tooth, is due to arrive June 10 via Blackest Ever Black. Touting a tighter and more single-minded obsession with “urgent and focused futurism” than its sprawling predecessor, the album features eight “fiercely uptempo, minimal, meticulously crafted electro-acoustic rhythm tracks” — available for pre-order on double LP, CD, and digital at this very moment — that are sure to have us all feeling doomed again in to time flat.

“If Quarter Turns was an album that confronted total loss and self-destruction, even longed for it, then Tooth is the sound of resistance and counter-attack: cunning, quick, resolute; calling upon stealth as much as brute-force,” reads the press release. “No let-up, no hesitation. Needlepoint guitar, deftly junglist drum programming, brooding synths and lethal sub-bass drive the engine.” But because — let’s face it — we’re not really any good at picturing what that all sounds like for ourselves, the duo has also decided to grace us with the album’s first single, “Dead Heat,” which we can practice nervously sweating-to down below.

They’re also playing a few shows around the UK coming up, just to help reawaken the public’s general capacity for angst about the future. And right on time, too! I mean, Thank GOODNESS; I honestly can’t wait to press play on this thing and get back into the swing of eking out a day-to-day existence in the pale shadow of a nameless and subtle but palpable terror. It’s been too long, friends.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit”

Load up on guns, bring your friends
It’s fun to lose and to pretend
She’s over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty wordHello, hello, hello, how low? [x3]
Hello, hello, hello! With the lights out, it’s less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yeah, hey, yay

I’m worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

Hello, hello, hello, how low? [x3]
Hello, hello, hello!

With the lights out, it’s less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yeah, hey, yay

And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it’s hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind

Hello, hello, hello, how low? [x3]
Hello, hello, hello!

With the lights out, it’s less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido

A denial! [x9]

Nickelback – How You Remind Me

“How You Remind Me”

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn’t cut it as a poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I’m sick of sight without a sense of feeling

And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am

It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong, I’ve been down,
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream “are we having fun yet?”

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no

It’s not like you didn’t know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause living with me must have damn near killed you

And this is how, you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how, you remind me
Of what I really am

It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong, I’ve been down,
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream “are we having fun yet?”

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn’t cut it as a poor man stealing

And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me

This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am

It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong, I’ve been down,
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream “are we having fun yet?”

[3x]
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet?

Yeah, yeah, no, no.
